How UID and GCLID Are Matched
WAConversionTracking uses both the GCLID and a unique UID to tie each WhatsApp message back to its originating Google Ads click.
π§© Breakdown:
- When a user visits your site via a Google Ad, the
gclid
and UTM data is captured by our script.
- When the WhatsApp button is clicked the following occurs:
- A UID is generated and sent to our database and attached to the preset WhatsApp message.
- GCLID & UTM Parameters are captured and sent to our data base
- When the user send the preset message by WhatsApp WAConversionTracking receives the UID from the message body.
- The system checks its records and matches the UID to the stored GCLID from the same session and marks the button click as a conversion.
β If both values are found:
β The match is confirmed, and a valid lead is recorded.
β The lead is then sent to your connected Google Sheet and optionally to Google Ads.
π How to Ensure This Works
- Always use the WAConversionTracking button or script so UID is inserted
- Do not allow WhatsApp messages to be manually edited by users (UID could be deleted)
- Ensure the script is present on landing pages receiving Google Ads traffic
