What Counts as a Conversion?
Learn what WAConversionTracking considers a valid conversion and what conditions must be met.
WAConversionTracking only logs a conversion when a real WhatsApp chat is initiated and properly attributed to a Google Ads click.
When a conversion is triggered a new entry will be added to leads.
โ A valid conversion requires all three of the following:
- GCLID Present
The visitor landed on your website from a Google Ads click with a valid gclid
parameter.
- UID Sent
The WhatsApp message includes a UID that was generated by WAConversionTracking and embedded in the button or script.
- Message Sent
The user actually sends the WhatsApp message (clicking the button alone is not enough).

We go beyond button clicks โ we only count real chats, not accidental taps or visits that donโt lead to actual conversations.
This helps:
- Improve Smart Bidding accuracy
- Reduce wasted ad spend
- Give you clear lead attribution
